WEST FRIENDSHIP, Md. — Maryland State Police say a trooper was seriously injured when his cruiser left Interstate 70 in Howard County and hit a tree.
Police say Cpl. Matthew Telep is in serious condition at Shock Trauma in Baltimore. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Troopers say Telep was in uniform and traveling in a marked patrol car about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday on I-70 in West Friendship.
Police say Telelp, a 5-year veteran, was trapped after the crash and was extricated by personnel from the Howard County Fire Department.
The accident is under investigation.
