LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC)– Better late than never.

The Washington Capitals geared up for their season opener with a scrimmage this morning, and single-game tickets for the delayed season are poised to go on sale this afternoon.

At 2 p.m., they will be available online at and by phone at 202-397-SEAT. Fans can also buy tickets in person at the Verizon Center, Kettler Capitals Iceplex and at any local Ticketmaster outlet.

As if the end of the league lockout wasn’t enough good news for hockey fans, there will be no Ticketmaster convenience fees on Capitals ticket purchases through Feb. 13, according to the organization.

The Capitals’ first game of the season will be on the road, against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday. They’ll go up against the Winnipeg Jets at the Verizon Center home opener next Tuesday.

The Capitals will play their rivals, the Pittsburgh Penguins, just once at home this season. That game is on Feb. 3. And, as they look to avenge last season’s seven-game playoff series loss to the Rangers, the Capitals will host the New York team March 10.
