LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC)- About a dozen dogs and cats affected by Hurricane Sandy will be welcomed to the District by the Washington Animal Rescue League today.
All of the animals were either abandoned during the storm, surrendered by their owners due to the effects of the storm or were strays.
The animals are coming from New York City, where they have been kept in temporary shelters. Many are currently being cared for by members of the Rescue League staff who have been on site in New York this week at the request of the ASPCA. Before they are eligible for adoption they will undergo medical and behavioral evaluations.
