CULPEPER, Va. (CBSDC/AP) — A suspect in a fatal hit-and-run accident in Fauquier County has been arrested.
Virginia State Police said Culpeper police acting on a tip arrested 32-year-old Diego Vazquez Mendoza of Culpeper without incident Wednesday.
Mendoza is accused of driving a pickup truck that rear-ended a compact car on U.S. 17 on Dec. 23. The car then crashed into another vehicle. The car’s driver, 58-year-old Douglas Rabren of Stafford, died at the scene. The car’s passenger, Debra Rabren, 59, of Stafford, was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
State police say Mendoza fled the scene on foot before troopers arrived.
