WASHINGTON — Prosecutors say a D.C. man has been convicted of posing as a cab driver and kidnapping and raping three female passengers.
Thirty-two-year-old Emero Tornero was found guilty Monday on 16 charges, including kidnapping and sexual abuse. He faces a possible life term at sentencing March 13.
According to evidence presented at trial, Tornero picked up women who hailed his vehicle, which was rigged so the back doors and windows could not be opened from the inside. Prosecutors say he took the victims to secluded locations and raped them.
In 2011, Tornero was convicted of charges stemming from a series of violent attacks in 2008 against taxicab drivers. He was sentenced to 24 years in prison for those attacks.
