ASHBURN, Va. (CBSDC) - A corrections officer was charged with assault and battery following an altercation with a friend in Loudoun County Thursday.
Police say 29-year-old Robert B. DeGroot, of Ashburn – a seven-year veteran corrections officer with the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office – was charged with misdemeanor assault and battery, as well as strangulation causing wounding or injury.
On Thursday, Dec. 27, Loudoun County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a home on Bruceton Mills Circle in Ashburn around 7 p.m. for a report of disorderly conduct.
When they arrived they met with the victim – a 28-year-old Ashburn man – who was outside the home. He told police he was assaulted by DeGroot while they were doing work on the home.
He was taken to a local hospital where he was treated for his injuries and released.
DeGroot has been placed on administrative leave and his law enforcement powers have been suspended while the investigation continues.
He is being held without bond.
