DC Area Under Wind Advisory All Day Thursday

(LANHAM, Md.) — The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory for the DC area and extended the Winter Weather advisory into Thursday.

The National Weather Service’s Winter Weather Advisory will remain in effect until 6 a.m. Thursday for Frederick County, Md., Loudoun County, Va. and all points north and west of those counties.

With gusts of up to 50 mph expected, the NWS has also issued a Wind Advisory for DC, Arlington, Falls Church and Alexandria that will be in effect Thursday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.


Maryland, Washington and Virginia experienced a wintry mix ranging from snow, sleet and rain Wednesday.

Airlines at BWI, Dulles and Reagan Airports saw delays between one to two hours,  while some Southwest, U.S. Airways, Delta and United flights were even cancelled.

Officials are asking travelers to use caution on the roadways and give themselves extra time to avoid accidents.
