ASHBURN, VA (CBSDC)–Washington Redskins Head Coach Mike Shanahan spoke to the media today via conference call a day after winning their sixth game in a row in a 27-20 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.
“Your goals are to win the division, you always want that home playoff game,” Redskins Head Coach Mike Shanahan said on the team’s chance to win the NFC East for the first time since 1999 on Sunday.
Shanahan also talked about the game next Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys, which the winner will win the division, being moved from 1pm to 8:20pm and by the time they kick-off they’ll know if they need to win to make the playoffs.
“I don’t worry about things I can’t control. We’re going to give them our best shot either way.”
Shanahan said they have some “bumps and bruises” from yesterday’s game with the most serious being safety DJ Gomes who has a second degree MCL sprain. Shanahan says they’ll evaluate him on Wednesday and see how his MCL responds.
Tackle Tyler Polumbus (concussion) missed his first game of the season yesterday and Shanahan said he’ll workout either Tuesday night or Wednesday and they doctors will re-evaluate him then.
Maurice Hurt filled in for Polumbus at right tackle yesterday and Shanahan said, “I thought he did an excellent job”.
It was the first time Hurt had played tackle in an NFL game.
The Redskins coaches were in today will go home a little early to have dinner with their family and will be back at the facility a little later than usual tomorrow with the holiday as they prepare for the Cowboys on Sunday.
