WASHINGTON (CBSDC) - A fatal car accident tied up traffic for hours in the northbound lanes of Baltimore-Washington Parkway early Monday afternoon.
U.S. Park Police responded to the single-vehicle crash that occurred when a driver traveling north on B.W. Parkway left the roadway and hit a large tree in the median around 11 a.m.
A Medevac was called to the scene of the accident located in the median strip between Annapolis Road and Riverdale Road in Landover.
The male driver – said to be in his 40s – was trapped in his car and had to be extricated by firefighters.
The victim was unconscious and suffering from critical injuries.
He was flown to a nearby trauma center but was pronounced dead a short time after his arrival.
The northbound lanes of the parkway were blocked before Rt. 410 for hours but normal traffic flow has since resumed.
