LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — A 25-year-old man shot and killed while holding a two-year-old in Seat Pleasant was slated to testify in an upcoming murder trial, but officials aren’t ready to say whether his death is related to his cooperation with authorities.
Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Angela Alsobrooks says Nichoh Mayhew previously declined the witness protection offered to him. Mayhew’s cousin is a co-defendant in that trial.
Mayhew was fatally shot around 10 a.m. Wednesday while in the stairwell of his garden-style apartment in the 6800 block of Seat Pleasant Drive according to police.
The child was struck in the arm by the bullet and is expected to survive.
Police believe two shooters targeted Mayhew before fleeing the area in a four-door BMW with tinted window.
