SEAT PLEASANT, Md. (CBSDC/AP) — Prince George’s County police have identified a man who was shot as he held a 2-year-old boy in Seat Pleasant on Wednesday morning.
Police have identified the victim as 25-year-old Nichoh Mayhew.
The shooting occurred at his garden-style apartment building in the 6800 block of Seat Pleasant Drive shortly after 10 a.m. on Wednesday in Seat Pleasant.
When police arrived, they discovered two victims – Mayhew and a young child – both suffering from gunshot wounds. Mayhew was pronounced dead at the scene, and the two-year-old was suffering from a gunshot wound to the arm and taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The preliminary investigation suggests two male suspects targeted Mayhew. The suspects fired several shots and then fled in a black four-door BMW with tinted windows, with unknown Maryland tags.
The incident comes on the same day county officials announced a historic drop in the county’s crime rate.
