RGIII Officially Out for Redskins, Cousins to Start; Grossman Active

CLEVELAND (CBSDC) — Robert Griffin III will not play today in Cleveland, having been placed on the inactive list for the first time in his young carer.
In his absence, the Washington Redskins are turning to fellow rookie Kirk Cousins to keep playoff hopes alive as they seek a fifth straight win.
The team announced late Saturday night Cousins was expected to start against the Browns, putting got rest a week-long guessing game regarding Griffin’s status.
Griffin is still recovering from the mild LCL sprain he sustained during the closing quarter of last Sunday’s win over the Baltimore Ravens. Griffin’s knee whipped violently as he was tackled during a 13-yard scramble.
Earlier in the week head coach Mike Shanahan stated he had not ruled out Griffin for the contest and allowed the normally shuttered media to observe the prized rookie stretching and throwing passes during the early portion of practice.

Rex Grossman, who started 13 games for the Redskins last season, is active for the first time in 2012 and will backup to Cousins.
Return specialist Brandon Banks is inactive for the second time in as many weeks. Richard Crawford is expected to handle punt returns while Niles Paul will field kickoffs.
