BELTSVILLE, Md. (CBSDC) — All lanes of U.S. Route 1 have reopened following an early morning crash that killed two people and closed roads for hours.
The accident occurred around 1:40 a.m. Friday when a Chevy Camaro crossed over the double yellow lines of Powder Mill Road, striking the tow truck head on. A person nearby at the time of the collision tells All News 99.1 it sounded like a bomb went off when the vehicle collided.
One person was thrown from the Camaro while another person remained trapped as it burst into flames, police say. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the tow truck is currently in the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
