Salvation Army in Winchester Falling Short of Christmas Donation Goals

WINCHESTER, Va. — A Salvation Army program in Winchester that helps feed needy families at Christmas is short on donations of turkeys and gifts with a deadline fast approaching.

Lt. Al Porras says officials are “a little bit scared” that enough donations may not come in.

The Winchester Star reports the Salvation Army branch has received only half of the 1,000 donated turkeys it needs. The nonprofit group also needs gifts for more than 700 children and families participating in its Angel Tree program.

Monday is the deadline for donations. The items are supposed to be distributed to families later that week.

The Winchester Salvation Army can be reached at (540) 662-4777.
