ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot says he will seek re-election as comptroller instead of running for governor in 2014.
The comptroller made the announcement in a letter to supporters on Tuesday.
Franchot, a Democrat, has been comptroller since 2007.
In the letter to supporters, Franchot says it’s is no secret that in recent months he has given thought to running for governor. He says while he’s humbled by the support his prospective campaign has received, he’s more convinced than ever that there is a shared desire among state residents for an honest conversation of the fiscal and economic challenges that the state still faces.
