Arrest Made In Drive-By Shooting Death of Young Lewisdale Teen
LEWISDALE, Md. (CBSDC) - Police have made an arrest in the drive-by shooting murder of a 14-year-old boy in Lewisdale on Wednesday.
Police say 24-year-old Jose Luis Rodriguez-Nunez, of Hyattsville, was taken into custody shortly after the shooting that led to death of Eliezer Benjamin Reyes, 14, and sent another man to the hospital.
Rodriguez-Nunez was formally charged on Friday with second-degree murder and related charges.
Police say the unidentified male victim hospitalized after the shooting has been treated and released.
This comes one day after police were out full force in the Lewisdale community, delivering flyers that informed residents of the death and the $25,000 reward being offered for information leading to an arrest.
Police responded to a report of a shooting in the 2200 block of Sheridan St. in Lewisdale around 12:15 a.m. on Wednesday.
They discovered two victims suffering from gunshot wounds when they arrived.
The first victim, an adult male, was taken to a local hospital.
The second victim, Reyes, 14, was also taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
An investigation revealed the two victims were shot in a drive-by shooting as they were walking down the street with two others.
Two members of the group walking down the street with them at the time of the incident are documented gang members, leading police to believe the shooting was gang related.
