GAITHERSBURG, Md. (CBSDC) — One person is dead following a home invasion that occurred early Monday morning at a Gaithersburg apartment complex.

Montgomery County police say Cesar Smith, 45, was inside the apartment with at least one other man when several people barged into the residence shortly after midnight.

An argument ensued, resulting in the death of Smith and injuries to the man he was with, who was able to contact police after the assailants left the apartment.

Police say the killing was not random and the exact cause of death has yet to be determined.

A motive for the homicide has not been determined either.
