ALEXANDRIA, Va. (CBSDC) - An Alexandria man is the latest to strike gold in the lottery after raking in $1 million in the Mega Million on Tuesday.
Strangely, no one seemed to notice when Lionel Miller claimed his winnings, because the nation was caught up in Powerball fever – all eyes on the winning numbers for the record $598 million jackpot.
Miller quadrupled what would have otherwise been a $250,000 prize when his five numbers hit, by spending an extra dollar for the Megaplier when he purchased his ticket at the Mt. Vernon Square Safeway in Alexandria. That store, by the way, received a $10,000 bonus from the Virginia Lottery for selling him the winning ticket.
His winning numbers were the same he frequently plays – 5, 12, 26, 42, 49 – which he says have no real significance to him at all.
Unsure of how to react when he discovered he won, the retired federal employee asked his wife, “How does it feel to be married to a millionaire?”
