Marshall Youths Create Art For DC Tree Display

BENTON, Ky. (AP) — The creativity of young people from western Kentucky will be on display in Washington this Christmas.

The Kentucky Arts Council says students from three schools in Marshall County were chosen to design and create ornaments for Kentucky’s tree in the National Christmas Tree display in President’s Park in the nation’s capital.

The students are from South Marshall Middle School, Benton Middle School and Marshall County High School. Artists and youths from each state, territory and the District of Columbia were chosen to create 24 ornaments for each tree.

Marshall County art teacher Valera Brooks headed up the project. She says the students used natural features found in Kentucky such as mountains, lakes and rivers in their work and also featured national parks, Kentucky history and the Kentucky Derby.
