WASHINGTON — A report from the District of Columbia’s inspector general says a former councilmember tried to get out of 10 traffic and parking tickets and managed to get one voided even after the Department of Motor Vehicles said no.

The report doesn’t name the councilmember but indicates it’s someone who has left the council since January. Two former councilmembers fit that description: Harry Thomas Jr. and Kwame Brown, both of whom pleaded guilty to felonies and resigned this year.

The report says the councilmember’s chief of staff requested that 10 tickets be voided because councilmembers are exempt from parking rules. Six were voided, but the DMV denied the request to void the other four. The report says the councilmember’s staff then went around the DMV and got another citation voided.
