ASHBURN, Va. (CBSDC) — Robert Griffin III has earned quite a few awards in his young football career, but the Heisman Trophy winner hasn’t ever won one quite like this.
He was presented with a WWE title belt and dubbed the “4th & Pain Champion” for Week 11 following his four touchdown, no interception performance in the Washington Redskins’ 31-6 thumping of the Philadelphia Eagles.
“I never thought I’d hold this belt,” Griffin said, noting that it is surprisingly heavy.
The belt is given to the most deserving Redskins player each week as part of the 4th & Pain radio show, co-hosted by defensive end Adam Carriker and I.
“I’m not sure what I’m going to do with the belt, but it will definitely be something special,” Griffin said.
Suggested he use it as a centerpiece for Thanksgiving dinner, he said: “It could be. That is a very good look. That’s just nice. That’s just beautiful right there.”
He proudly walked out of the locker room with the belt firmly in his possession. A short time later the Redskins tweeted a photo of Griffin on a conference call with members of the Dallas media while proudly wearing the belt around his waist.
Maybe it will wind up on the Thanksgiving table after all.
Griffin’s first chance to defend his title comes Thursday afternoon against the Cowboys.
Previous winners include Santana Moss, Ryan Kerrigan, Alfred Morris, Lorenzo Alexander and Tyler Polumbus.
4th & Pain with Adam Carriker and Chuck Carroll is the only pro wrestling show hosted by a NFL player and a former wrestling announcer, turned weight loss champion.
