DALE CITY, Va. (CBSDC/AP) — Virginia State Police are investigating a man accused of making threats on a Greyhound bus traveling from Richmond to New York City at the start of the Thanksgiving travel rush.
Police say a passenger called 911 around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday about a man on the bus making threatening comments. State police responded and evacuated the bus in the pre-dawn hours along Interstate 95 in northern Virginia.
Officers closed the HOV lanes for more than two hours, creating a traffic backup for miles.
Police say the man initially refused to leave the bus. But later, he was taken into custody without any further incident.
Investigators searched the bus for any suspicious packages, but nothing was found. The bus was cleared by 6 a.m.
Police say charges are pending against the suspect.
