WASHINGTON (CBSDC/AP) — One out of five area residents is expected to travel for Thanksgiving. Drivers planning to travel into the District on Thursday should be prepared for street closures as a result of a 5k race.
Thursday’s race begins at 9 a.m. Street closures begin at 6 a.m. and continue through 1:30 p.m. The race starts and ends at Freedom Plaza in downtown Washington. The course winds its way east along Pennsylvania Avenue before traveling in front of the Capitol and looping back to the finish line.
The 11th annual Trot For Hunger is organized by So Others Might Eat, a Washington-based charity that provides food, clothing and other services to the city’s poor.
