Redskins Turkey Giveaway Reaches 3,500 Homes

LANDOVER, Md. (CBSDC) - Thirty-five hundred needy families showed up to FedEx Field to receive a free turkey and other packaged foods during the 10th Annual Redskins-Harris Teeter “Harvest Feast” on Tuesday.
The Washington Redskins donated the food to families of Prince George’s County with a host Redskins alumni around to help out, as part of a joint effort from the football team, the Prince George’s County Deaprtment of Social Services, Redskins Women of Washington, Ryan Homes and Wells Fargo.
It took more than 500 volunteers to organize the event and hand out the fresh, 20-pound Thanksgiving turkeys and gift baskets to families that registered and qualified for them.
Other notable appearances included the Hogettes, Santa, Tanya Snyder, the wife of Redskins owner Dan Snyder. Santa distributed the gift bags to children in attendance, that were filled with Redskins Read Activity Books, toys and treats, according to the team.
A spokesperson for the team said they’ve given away more than one million pounds of food since launching the event in 2002.
