ARLINGTON, Va. (CBSDC) – A man was rushed to the hospital after falling from the parking garage at Ballston Mall on Monday.
Arlington blog ARLnow reported a 40-year-old man – who has not yet been identified – was hanging from the first level of the garage on the Glebe Road side near Carlin Springs Road, around 1:30 p.m.
According to the report, police received calls from multiple witnesses saying a suicide attempt was underway, but the man fell before police arrived.
He was taken to a hospital to be treated for a traumatic head injury.
Police do not believe it was a suicide attempt, although ARLnow says two former suicide attempts occurred in the same garage in the last three years.
Investigators believe the man may have been fleeing from a hit-and-run that occurred in the garage, but wasn’t aware of high up he was when he put himself in harm’s way.
Police and paramedics tell ARLnow they have had frequent contact with the man in the past for other incidents.
