RIVERDALE, Md. (CBSDC/AP) – Prince George’s County authorities say a sheriff’s deputy has shot and killed a man in Riverdale while trying to serve a temporary peace order inside the home.
The sheriff’s office says the shooting happened Wednesday night at a home located in the 6300 block of 63rd Ave. in East Riverdale.
Police say a woman opened the door, allowing an officer inside to serve the peace order to her son.
The son then appeared from the back of the home with a gun in his hand. The deputy then fired at least one shot, and the 39-year-old man later died at a hospital.
The deputy’s name was not released, but he’s been placed on administrative leave — which is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings.
