WASHINGTON (CBSDC) — Newt Gingrich back as Speaker of the House? Only if one GOP representative had his way.
Republican lawmaker Louie Gohmert of Texas nominated the former presidential hopeful to serve as House speaker once again, The Hill reports.
No one seconded Gohmert’s nomination. It was a moot point as current House Speaker John Boehner won the nomination by voice vote.
Gingrich previously served as speaker from 1995 to 1999.
Gohmert did not violate any Constitutional rules because one does not have to currently serve in the House of Representatives to be speaker.
