WASHINGTON (AP) — A lawmaker says Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton has agreed to appear before Congress to answer questions about the Sept. 11 terrorist attack in Benghazi, Libya.
Republican Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen of Florida, who heads the House foreign affairs committee, says Clinton will testify after the State Department’s internal review of the attack is complete. Ros-Lehtinen says she expects the report’s completion in December.
The State Department declined to confirm Ros-Lehtinen’s announcement Thursday.
Department officials have said their review may not be finished until January, meaning that any appearance by Clinton before Congress could possibly be delayed.
