WASHINGTON (CBSDC) - The Fierce Five – the team of Olympic gymnasts that took gold for the U.S. in August – took President Obama up on his personal invite to the White House Thursday afternoon.

The group, consisting of Gabby Douglas, McKayla Maroney, Kyla Ross, Aly Raisman and Jordyn Wieber, collectively won the team gold medal at this summer’s London Games.

On Thursday, their national tour brought them to the Nation’s Capital, where they paid a quick visit to the president.

The gymnasts missed their last scheduled White House appearance with the rest of the U.S. Olympic team earlier in the year, and almost missed the president again this time.

Obama traveled to New York today to get an update on storm damage. The team was able to squeeze in a meet and greet with him in the Oval Office before gathering outside to watch his New York-bound helicopter take off.

They signed leotards to give to the first daughters, Sasha and Malia.
