UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (CBSDC) - Students had to be evacuated for minor injuries following a school bus crash in Upper Marlboro Wednesday afternoon.
The bus was carrying as many as 40 children from Barack Obama Elementary School in Upper Marlboro when it struck another vehicle on Route 301 near Marlboro Pike around 2:45 p.m.
Prince George’s County Fire officials say the students were evaluated for “very minor injuries.”
The bus had just dropped off about half of its students and was sitting in traffic when a Dodge Ram slammed into the back of it.
“It could have been a lot worse,” said Prince George’s County Schools Transportation Director Tom Bishop. “Driving and riding in a school bus again proves it’s probably the safest form of transportation in the country.”
