ASPEN, Colo. (AP) — David Petraeus’ biographer and girlfriend said at a conference last summer that the general was a “very close mentor” and the two of them had a special relationship.

She also said in an interview at the Aspen Institute that Petraeus was “quite a physical specimen.”

During a talk at the Aspen Institute in July about the military, author Paula Broadwell said Petraeus loved to work out and made physical fitness a priority. She also said her access to Petraeus and classified information created “a clear line” she couldn’t cross as a journalist.

Petraeus, who has resigned as CIA director, acknowledged the affair in a letter to agency employees.
