Schools Concerned Over Dangerous New ‘Games’
LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — It’s long been known that kids say the darndest things. But some videos on YouTube are proving they also do some darn dangerous things as well.
Frederick County Public School officials are concerned for student’s safety as youngsters have been mimicking stunts known as the Cinnamon Challenge and the Eraser Challenge.
In the Cinnamon Challenge, a person is tasked with eating one tablespoon of the spice without any water within one minute. Many have violent reactions to the cinnamon overload that include vomiting, loss of breath and severe coughing.
The Eraser Challenge, also known as the ABC Eraser Challenge, is the riskier of the two of feats. Students rub an eraser on their arm while trying to reciting the alphabet. The rubbing causes painful irritation, can leave scars on the skin and cause infection.
In response to the growing popularity of the challenge, school officials sent a letter to parents warning of the potential safety hazards it poses.
The letter notes the unsanitized erasers can cause a severe infection, including MRSA, Scalded Skin Syndrome and Toxic Shock Syndrome.
Some variations of the game call for participants to apply hand sanitizer to the irritated area as soon as they finish rubbing it with an eraser.
