WASHINGTON (CBSDC) - Washington Nationals center fielder Bryce Harper has been named the 2012 National League Rookie of the Year.
Through 139 games, Harper had 533 at-bats for 144 hits, 22 home runs and 59 runs-batted-in, with a .270 batting average.
He was competing against two other finalists for the award: pitcher Todd Frazier of Cincinnati and third baseman Wade Miley of Arizona. Frazier had 16 wins and a 3.33 ERA and Miley hit for 19 home runs and a .273 batting average.
Harper, who was called up in late April, became the second youngest palyer to win the award. He was an All-Star and led fellow NL rookies with 57 extra-base hits.
He received 16 of 28 first-place votes.
