BALTIMORE, Md. (CBSDC) – Students at Perry Hall High School welcomed back a classmate Friday who was wounded during a school shooting in August.

Daniel Borowy, 17, returned to school today after being shot in the back by classmate Robert Wayne Gladden Jr., 15, on the first day of school.

There was no fanfare though, because his parents just didn’t want there to be. They say their son, who is disabled with Down syndrome, would prefer to return quietly.

Baltimore County Public Schools said in an email to WJZ:

“The wishes that we have is quiet and normal a school day as possible for all concerned and mostly Danny’s welfare.”

Gladden was charged as an adult in the shooting, which he carried out with a 40-year-old double-barreled shotgun he took from his father’s home.
