WASHINGTON (CBSDC) - One person is left fighting for their life after an accident on the Capital Beltway .

State troopers and emergency response crews arrived on the scene of the accident which occurred on the Inner Loop of the Beltway near Branch Ave. sometime around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Police say one person was taken to a local hospital and is in extremely critical condition.

Traffic backed up for miles past Allentown Road with only one lane of traffic getting by as over ten police cars, fire trucks and ambulances filled the road.
