DUMFRIES, Va. (CBSDC) - A pedestrian struck by a train between Fredericksburg and Dumfries on Monday has died.

Virginia Railway Express trains came to a halt on the Fredericksburg line when the 311 train struck a person at Cherry Hill road near Dumfries around 7:25 p.m. on Monday.

Prince William County police confirmed the person struck – who has yet to be identified – has died as a result of the train collision.

Following the incident, the 313 train was being held at the Woodbridge station, but police would not allow it to pull alongside the 311 train to pick up stranded passengers while they investigated the scene.

Buses were brought in to pick up some of the stranded passengers. The rest were transported on the 313 train hours after the collision.
