UPPER MARLBORO, Md. — The Prince George’s County school board has fewer college graduates than any other school system in the Washington region according to an analysis by The Washington Post.

The newspaper reported Sunday that two of the county’s eight board members have a bachelor’s degree. Every member of school boards in the district as well as Montgomery, Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William counties has at least a bachelor’s degree.

A degree is not a requirement for the Prince George’s County board. Board member Amber Waller says she attended two years of college before dropping out so her parents could send her younger sister to school. Waller says she values the importance of a college education, but has mixed feelings about whether it is necessary to be a successful board member.
