LANDOVER, MD (CBSDC)–The Redskins fell to 3-6 on the season falling 21-13 to the Carolina Panthers in their final game before the bye week.

“I’m obviously very disappointed. Anytime you have 150-plus alumni come back you’d like to play one of your better games. I really thought going into the game that we were going to play and play one of our better games of the season and unfortunately, we didn’t.”

It was the annual Redskins “homecoming” game and they introduced the new ten to the eighty greatest Redskins before the game, plus the Redskins wore their special 80th anniversary uniforms.  But it was also motivation for the Carolina Panthers and running back DeAngelo Williams, who scored the Panthers first touchdown, as they didn’t like being the team playing the Redskins on “homecoming”.

“I picked up the “Gameday” and I’m looking at the “Gameday” and it’s customary and it says “homecoming” and I’m thinking to myself this is the National Football League are you serious? Homecoming? Homecoming and it’s not like you tried to hide it,”  Williams said.  “You blatantly put it on the front of the “Gameday” and you talk about somebody fired up today. I was pissed.”

Williams went on to voice his displeasure.

“That was definitely motivating, you don’t say you’re going to have a homecoming in the National Football League.”

Williams said he brought it up in the pregame speech and added, “You don’t book a good team for homecoming”.

The Redskins now head into the bye week losers of three games in a row, but nobody is giving up on the season yet.

“You want to come out of a game like this with a victory,”  Redskins Quarterback Robert Griffin III said.  “We didn’t get that. It’s very upsetting, but at the end of the day, we got a bye week. We have to come back, ready to go. We’re not going to feel sorry for ourselves. I don’t expect any of the players to feel sorry for themselves. We’ve got to come back ready to go.”

Listen here to what Mike Shanahan, Robert Griffin III, London Fletcher, Trent Williams, Darrel Young, Lorenzo Alexander, Barry Cofield, Josh Wilson, Perry Riley & Carolina Panthers running back DeAngelo Williams had to say following the loss.
