NHL Cancels Fan Favorite: 2013 Winter Classic Nixed

WASHINGTON (CBSDC) – A person familiar with the situation says the NHL has cancelled the 2013 Winter Classic at Michigan Stadium, according to the Associated Press.

The person told AP on condition of anonymity Friday because the league had not yet announced the cancellation.

The person also says the NHL will re-schedule the stadium to hold its next Winter Classic in the hope the more than 100,000 seat venue can help the league break the world record for hockey attendance.

Detroit and Toronto of the NHL’s original six team were scheduled to play at the Big House on Jan 1., 2013.

The NHL also canceled all regular season games scheduled through November last week.
