WASHINGTON (CBSDC) – Police had Calvert Street blocked off from Adams Morgan all the way to Woodley Park for hours Thursday night for a possible jumper on the Duke Ellington Bridge.
The incident drew over 30 police cars, five ambulances, an emergency response team and an armored vehicle to the scene, blocking off both ends of the bridge and then some – not allowing any cars or people to pass through.
Onlookers gathered in swarms trying to get a glimpse of the man as traffic backed up for miles.
Police would not comment on whether the man was armed, but they did say he was taken into custody without incident shortly after 11:00 p.m.
We do know a negotiator was on the scene talking to the man.
