LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) – A 43-year-old man was charged with using a computer to solicit young children after a middle school girl informed her parents of a ‘friend’ request from a person she had never met.
Robert Bruce Rennie, Jr., 43, was charged on Oct. 24 with five counts of use of a computer to solicit a child younger than 15 years old.
A student at Lunsford Middle School told her parents she accepted a friend request from what she believed to be a fellow student, named “Kyle Kirts.” During a conversation, “Kyle Kirts” solicited sexual activity from the child.
Her parents alerted the school staff of the inappropriate contact, and the staff alerted a police officer stationed at the school.
After investigating the incident, the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office determined “Kyle Kirts” was a fake account set up by Rennie, who was portraying himself as a student of Lunsford Middle School and had mostly young girls on his friends list.
During chats, “Kyle Kirts” would quickly ask females to move to a Skype account for sexual purposes.
Several more victims were identified during the investigation. Police determined the suspect also made contact with children from Mercer Middle School.
The investigation is ongoing, and police ask that if your child has made contacted with “Kyle Kirts” or Robert Bruce Rennie, Jr., to contact Detective Beaver of the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division at (703) 777-0475.
Rennie is being held without bond at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.
