COLLEGE PARK, Md. (CBSDC/AP) — The first Washington commute after superstorm Sandy is running into trouble with a fatal crash blocking part of the Capital Beltway near College Park.
All lanes of the outer loop of I-495 were blocked for several hours early Wednesday near New Hampshire Avenue and the I-95 split. By 9:25 a.m., the wreck was finally cleared to one side of the road, and traffic was allowed to pass by.
The crash appeared to involve a car, a truck and a tractor truck with no trailer. Maryland State Police say it happened just before 5:20 a.m. At least one person has died from injuries sustained in the crash.
The traffic backup could impact commuters heading from Baltimore to Washington.
