ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Gov. Martin O’Malley’s administration says weather developments will be monitored to determine whether changes will be needed to the state’s early voting schedule.

O’Malley declared a state of emergency on Friday, as the mid-Atlantic region braced for Hurricane Sandy.

Early voting begins on Saturday in Maryland and runs through Thursday.

Forecasters say the hurricane could come ashore early Tuesday.

Maryland’s election law provides that in the event of a state of emergency that interferes with the electoral process, the proclamation may provide for the postponement of the election in part or all of the state.
