WASHINGTON — Authorities say a man fleeing a solo-car crash in northeast Washington has been arrested after trying to escape from police by climbing over the wall of the Russian Embassy.
D.C. police spokesman Araz Alali says the man was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and driving while intoxicated. Alali says the crash took place at about 12:30 a.m. Thursday on Massachusetts Avenue NW near Garfield Street.
Alali says an officer spotted the man in the 2500 block of Wisconsin Avenue. The man ran behind an apartment building and either climbed or jumped over the embassy’s fence. Alali says the man did not realize it was the Russian Embassy.
Alali says officers identified the man as 34-year-old Michael Worley of Washington.
