BETHESDA, Md. (CBSDC) - A HAZMAT team had to contain a Freon leak at local hospital in Bethesda on Tuesday.
Montgomery County Fire Department said it was a small leak in the lower level of Suburban Hospital, located in the 8600 block of Old Georgetown Road in Bethesda.
No patients were injured or evacuated, but some offices were evacuated, according to fire officials.
The hospital only accepted emergency cases while the HAZMAT unit waited for the Freon leak to drain off.
A hospital spokesperson said the leak emanated from the building’s IT department in a cooling system used to keep equipment cool.
The investigation lasted a couple of hours before the hospital returned to normal practice.
