In response to extreme summer temperatures this week, Prince George’s County is designating their Department of Parks and Recreation facilities as “Cooling Centers” for county residents.

The Magna Carta will be on the move in 2015. The British Library plans to celebrate the 800th birthday of the document that laid the foundations of Britain’s common law and civil liberties by uniting all four surviving original copies under one roof for the first time.

The New Yorker’s Bert and Ernie Cover

The New Yorker caused a bit of a stir on the web when it released a sneak preview of next week’s cover illustration. The drawing depicts the Sesame Street characters Bert and Ernie celebrating the Supreme Court ruling that the Defense of Marriage Act is unconstitutional. The children’s show has long held that Bert and Ernie are not a same-sex couple.
