New Security Policies at Preakness
The Maryland Jockey Club has modified the security policies for fans, employees and vendors who will enter Pimlico Race Course next month on Black-Eyed Susan and Preakness days, May 17-18. The changes were made after consulting with law enforcement and public safety officials following the bombings during the Boston Marathon.

Governor Martin O’Malley’s Buy Local Cookout 2013
Gov. O’Malley’s annual “Buy Local Cookout” is searching for a few new, original recipe ideas. Recipes must be made by teams that include one chef and at least one Maryland food producer or farmer. Recipes can range from appetizers to desserts and even beverages. Entries are due by May 6. To submit your recipe, click here.

Fundraiser for Injured Officer
A fundraiser for injured Fairfax County police officer Long Dinh will take place from noon to 7 p.m. Sunday, April 28 at Hard Times Cafe in Fairfax city. More information about the fundraiser can be found here.

Numerous roads in Crystal City will be closed from 6:15 to 7:45 p.m. Friday, April 26 due to the Crystal Run – 5K Fridays series.

Top Ten Fugitive Eric Toth in Custody
Eric Justin Toth was taken into custody in Nicaragua on April 20, 2013. This picture shows his current appearance as compared to the photos on his wanted poster. Because Toth was a fugitive for almost five years, the FBI is concerned about additional children he could have potentially victimized.
Metro ‘Listening Session’
The Metro Riders’ Advisory Council will host three “listening sessions” in D.C., Maryland and Virginia. The first session will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. tonight at the Charles Houston Recreation Center, 901 Wythe St., in Alexandria.

Potholepalooza is the District’s month-long spring campaign to aggressively repair damaged roadways across the city. Through May 22, the
District Department of Transportation will work to repair identified potholes within 48 hours of the request. Residents and commuters are encouraged to call, go online, tweet, e-mail or to submit requests for pothole repairs.

Autism Screenings for Kids
The Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore will provide free developmental assessments for infants between ages 5 and 10 months who have an older sibling diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Families living in Maryland, Virginia and D.C. are eligible for the free assessments.

The Garden Club of Virginia is hosting its annual Garden Week from April 20-27. The eight-day statewide event provides visitors a unique opportunity to see unforgettable gardens. The full schedule includes nearly 50 gardens throughout the state, including three in Northern Virginia.
