Randy Edsall, head coach of the University of Maryland football team, joined the Junks this morning to talk about the Terps hot start to the season.
Much of this year’s success can be attributed to a core of young players recruited by Edsall. “Your three true freshmen are getting it done,” Lurch told the coach.
“You let them know that you believe in them and show them the things they need to do to be successful,” Edsall said of his young playmakers. “[These players] make your job as a coach that much easier.”
Coach Edsall was sure to spread the credit around, applauding the play of the 17 seniors on the squad.
Edsall compared the success of his young, unheralded team to another local surprise success: the Baltimore Orioles. “They are group of guys who believed in themselves and went out there and played hard every day…they created a culture of team up there.”
The Terps take on NC State on Saturday for Maryland’s homecoming game. Typically, teams schedule a creampuff for homecoming, but NC State (4-2) is certainly a worthy opponent. “You play who they tell you to play,” Edsall said. “To me it doesn’t really matter who the opponent is.”
