WASHINGTON (CBSDC) — A former cheerleading coach and educational aide at Wilson High School has pleaded guilty to having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old male student from another school.
Loni Haggins, 30, met the student during the summer of 2010 while working as a supervisor at a D.C. youth employment program where the boy was a participant.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office says Haggins and the student began engaging in sexual activity shortly after the program ended. She would attend his basketball games, take him out to dinner, pick him up from school and buy him shoes as their relationship continued through April 2011.
The woman told him it was best to keep the relationship a secret until he turned 18.
Haggins became pregnant and a paternity test has proven the student is the father of the child.
Haggins, who was arrested on Sept. 14, faces up to a year in prison after entering a guilty plea to second-degree sexual abuse charges. She will also be required to register as a sex offender for 10 years.
