D.C. United Goalkeeper Bill Hamid joined the Upper 90 Soccer Show this week during with the team off for the International break. United have two games left before the start of the MLS playoffs. Despite the overwhelming odds in their favor, they have a 98% chance of making the playoffs, Hamid and the team won’t take their last two opponents lightly.
Hamid began his season starting with the US Soccer team attempting to qualify for the Olympics. It was a tough journey for Hamid as he was injured and also struggled as the US failed to qualify. Hamid used this time as a learning experience.
United still want to avoid the MLS playoff play-in game, and still have a shot at the top seed in the Eastern conference. With both of their opponents in the Eastern Conference playoff picture, it won’t be a cakewalk for United, but they should still be able to get the one point from two games necessary to make the playoffs.
Hamid boasts the league’s best Save Percentage at 78% so far this season, and is in the top half of the league in saves despite missing time from injuries. Despite the tumultuous start to the year, Hamid has done a great job rebounding and turning himself into one of the best goalkeepers in the MLS. That didn’t stop the guys from asking about his European hopes, but Hamid answered like a true professional saying he was focused on DC United for now.
