SILVER SPRING (CBSDC) — A man shot by police following a standoff in Silver Spring has died.
Montgomery County Police say the 22-year-old Tracy Woodfork, of the 5000 block of Volta Avenue in Bladensburg, called 911 around 3:15 a.m. Monday, stating he had a gun and wanted police to kill him.
The man did not give his location, but authorities were able to track him to an upper middle class home in the 9500 block of Woodland Drive where his girlfriend was babysitting three small children.
The 23-year-old woman and children remained inside the home as police began speaking with the man who was locked out and standing in an outdoor basement stairwell.
The home belongs to the woman’s clients.
As police distracted the suspect in the back of the house, authorities were able to usher the four people out the front door.
Shortly after 5 a.m. police say Woodfork began walking up the stairwell with a gun and was shot by officers. It was later determined he was using a replica gun.
A police spokesman says the man was taken to the hospital in critical condition where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The officers involved in the shooting have been placed on paid, administrative leave.
